The Society of Professional Journalists 2010 Region 8 Mark of Excellence Awards ceremony was held this past weekend in Austin at the AT&T Conference Center.
Texas State won 12 awards, 8 of them in visual journalism!

– First Place for General News Photography – Tina Phan of The University Star, “Winter Soldier”
– First Place for Online Sports Reporting – Scott Thomas of The University Star, “Brian Lilly goes to dinner” (video)
– Second Place of Online News Reporting – Bianca Davis, Sara Strick and Scott Thomas of The University Star, “Remembering Ft. Hood’s fallen” (audio slideshow)
– Second Place of Breaking News Photography – Sara Strick for The University Star, “Lights Out”
– Third Place for Best Affiliated Web Site – The University Star
– Third Place for Online News Reporting – Fabian Juarez of The University Star, “Texas State ROTC Training Day” (video)
– Third Place for Photo Illustration – Bobby Scheidemann of The University Star, “24-Hour Library”
